Admission Requirements

When applying for any pathway program, you will be starting with Nexford University. Nexford's admission requirements are detailed here for each of our programs.

Once you have begun or completed your Nexford MBA and are ready to transition to Capella, our admissions team will help you compile all the necessary documents. There is no additional application fee for Capella's MBA or DBA programs.

For Capella's MBA: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is required, with a minimum GPA of 2.3 for GuidedPath or a recommended GPA of 3.0 for FlexPath, official transcripts, completed application, and a valid, government-issued form of photo identification. No GRE/GMAT required.

For Capella's DBA: A master’s degree from an accredited institution is required, with a minimum GPA of 3.0 for GuidedPath or a recommended GPA of 3.0 for FlexPath, official transcripts, completed application, and a valid,government-issued form of photo identification. No GRE/GMAT required.

International Admission Requirements: For international applicants: in addition to Capella’s MBA and DBA admission requirements, international applicants will need to submit proof of English proficiency and transcript evaluation.

Nexford learners are admissible to Capella provided they meet all published Capella University admissions requirements and completed their coursework at Nexford after January 20, 2021.

Your degree is awarded by the institution where you complete your program. If you transfer to Capella and complete their MBA or DBA, your diploma will come from Capella University.

How does tuition work under this partnership?

While enrolled at Nexford, you pay Nexford's tuition. When you transition to Capella, you pay Capella's tuition directly.

Capella offers per-credit tuition pricing (GuidedPath) or one flat tuition fee every 12-week billing session (FlexPath), plus a $45,000 tuition cap for eligible DBA learners. Exclusions and restrictions apply.

How do I apply to the pathway program?

Start by applying to Nexford University. Complete your MBA coursework, and when you're ready to transfer to Capella, our admissions team will guide you through the process. There is no additional application fee for Capella.

Is the entire pathway 100% online?

Yes. Both Nexford and Capella are fully online institutions. You can complete your entire academic journey — from your Nexford MBA through a Capella MBA or DBA — without relocating or attending on-campus sessions.

What if I complete my Nexford MBA but decide not to continue to Capella?

No commitment required. Your Nexford MBA stands on its own as an accredited degree. The Capella pathway is an option — not an obligation. You can decide to transfer at any point, even after graduating from Nexford.

Do I need to take the GRE or GMAT?

No. Neither Capella's MBA nor DBA programs require GRE or GMAT scores for admission.
