Nexford University partners with Kenyan Basketball team Nairobi City Thunder to help players advance education
Leading American-accredited online institution Nexford University has partnered with the Kenya Premier League 2024 Championship team, Nairobi City Thunder (NCT), to support players in advancing their education while excelling in their sports careers.
Through the partnership, the players will receive scholarships to pursue future-focused degree programs, including Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Science in Data Analytics (MSDA), Master of Science in Digital Transformation (MSDT) and Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA).
Fadl Al Tarzi, CEO of Nexford University, said the institution's fully online, flexible learning model will enable the players to balance their rigorous training schedules with their studies, ensuring they gain relevant business and digital skills while continuing to compete at the highest level.

"At Nexford, we believe in empowering individuals from all walks of life to play at the top of their game—whether on the court, the field, or in the boardroom. This partnership with Nairobi City Thunder is more than just an assist; it’s a game-changer. By equipping these champions with future-focused education, we’re helping them develop the skills to excel not only in sports but also in business, technology, and entrepreneurship," Al Tarzi said.
He added that developing business, leadership, and digital skills while still active in sports not only enhances financial security but also opens doors to long-term success.
"By equipping Nairobi City Thunder players with future-focused education, Nexford University is ensuring they are prepared for life beyond the court," Al Tarzi added.
On his part, Nairobi City Thunder CEO Colin Rasmussen said by giving the athletes access to quality, flexible education, they are preparing them not just for the next game but for life after basketball.
"It’s about building legacy, leadership, and long-term impact. Star players like Albert Odero and Tylor Okari have signed up for the Nexford courses and more have joined since. The energy has shifted there’s real buzz and motivation. Players are talking about their goals off the court with the same passion they bring to every game," Rasmussen said.
